Dana Drábová

Chairwoman, State Office for Nuclear Safety

Dana Drábová is an indispensable figure on the Czech energy and scientific scene. She has served as the Chair of the State Office for Nuclear Safety since 1999, and her name is synonymous with calm, expertise, and perspective in debates on nuclear energy.

Since 1999, she has led the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB). She graduated from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, specializing in dosimetry and the applications of ionizing radiation. After completing her studies in 1985, she joined the Center for Radiation Hygiene at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, where she focused on protection against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. From 1996 to 1999, she served as Director of the State Institute for Radiation Protection.

In her role, she oversees the safety of nuclear power plants, radiological protection, and emergency preparedness. She is known for her ability to explain even the most complex technical issues in a way that laypeople can understand—and maybe even fall in love with. Dana Drábová is a respected figure not only in the Czech Republic but also on the international stage. For her work, she has received numerous awards, including the Medal of Merit, First Class (2014), and the Order of the Rising Sun from the Japanese government (2024).
